JBIC funded Road Network Improvement Project – Consultancy Services for Pre-contract Assistance and Construction Supervision (Gampola-Nuwara Eliya and Gampola-Nawalapitiya Roads)

The Road Network Improvement Project (RNIP) involves the rehabilitation and improvement of 345 kms of National Highways including reconstruction and strengthening of 47 bridges. The Project funded by JBIC is for Contract No. 6 – Gampola – Nuwara Eliya Road (54 kms) and Contract No. 8 – Gampola – Nawalapitiya Road (17 kms). Detailed engineering design and preparation of tender documents have been done under a separate consultancy. The main objective of this consultancy is to provide pre-contract assistance, review of detailed designs and construction supervision so as to ensure that the works are carried out according to the stipulated conditions of contract, specifications and drawings The project consisted of the widening of the road embankment to RDA standards including rock excavation, soil nailing of road embankments, edge widening and strengthening of road base; widening and reconstruction of culverts and small bridges; construction of retaining walls and a tunnel at Ramboda pass; provision of an Asphalt Concrete Road Pavement, traffic signs, road markings, barrier railings etc.
