Second Community Water Supply and Sanitation Project – Technical Assistance for Project Implementation in the North East Province

The Project was designed to assist Provincial Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas to facilitate Community Based Organisations in providing improved water supply and sanitation facilities to selected Grama Niladhari Divisions (GNs) in the Central and North Western Provinces and North and East Provincial Council Areas. The project supports decentralized implementation of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) activities to Provincial and Local levels and promotes a community-based participatory approach where beneficiary communities are expected to participate actively in decision-making at all stages of sub-project implementation. The community will be represented by community-based organizations (CBOs) which will be fully responsible for construction, operation and maintenance of water supply and sanitation facilities. The Project consists of four components, namely, (i) RWSS schemes in villages and estates, (ii) implementation support by Partner Organisations (POs), (iii) Program management and capacity building, and (iv) RWSS development in North and East Provinces.
